According to the order No.11 of the President of China, announced on Sept 1, 2023, the new Civil Procedure Law of China will take effect on January 1, 2024. The amendment focuses on revising the foreign-related civil litigation procedures and includes
(1) amending the relevant provisions on jurisdiction to further expand the jurisdiction of Chinese courts over foreign-related civil cases,
(2) adding provisions on parallel proceedings and forum non conveniens doctrine,
(3) revising the relevant provisions on foreign-related serving,
(4) improving the judicial assistance system for foreign-related civil cases,
(5) adding relevant provisions on overseas investigation and evidence collection and
(6) improving the enforcement of rulings of foreign courts in China.
