On July 23, 2025, Brazil’s National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) published its new User Manual on Patent Forfeiture. The manual sets out clear and practical guidance on when and how a patent may be forfeited due to non-use or abuse, as defined in Article 80 of the Brazilian IP Law (Law No. 9.279/1996).
