The Brazilian senate has approved a bill that implements a system to protect personal data in the country. The text creates a legal framework for the protection, processing, and use of information. The lower house of congress had already passed the bill, which now needs to be sanctioned by President Michel Temer (MDB).

Once the law is enacted, users may be able to request access to data collected by companies, in addition to requesting the correction or exclusion of such data. According to the bill, the federal government will create a body to manage the new system.
